The Project

The Project

The EU has set itself an ambitious goal: to become the first climate-neutral continent. This is in line with the European Green Deal. To make this happen, we need to take decisive action at the local level. We also need the support and active engagement of rural communities and citizens.

RurALL (Rural Active Citizenship LABS) is a project that's all about the idea that 'citizen participation is citizen power'. The 2-year project is funded by the European Union under the CERV-2023-CITIZENS-CIV call coordinated by KÉK aims to empower rural people in local and EU-level environmental action and policy-making on global climate change. We want to get more rural people involved in climate and environment-related discussions, actions and policymaking. We're looking to reach and engage those who aren't currently active in or disappointed by existing local or EU-level policymaking. We're here to help rural citizens get involved in different ways, from raising awareness and sharing information to taking action in their communities and engaging with policymakers.

This project is special because we're focusing on specific issues that matter to people in the target area. We're using tools that are tailored to the community's needs.

In the project, we'll test, implement, and promote new ways of getting rural people involved in the EU's climate and environmental work in five EU Member States (France, Hungary, Portugal, Spain and Slovakia). We want to educate and get new groups of rural citizens involved in local and EU-level environmental actions and policymaking. We'll show pathways to rural eco-activism and empower and encourage local citizens to launch and participate in local co-designed activities related to their environment and take on an active role in the green transition.

Activities

In-situ project events will take place in 5 different countries – Hungary, Slovakia, France, Spain, and Portugal. The project builds cooperation between different organizations in five countries through knowledge transfer, exchange of best practices, and the development of joint research and training methodologies.
