Successful participatory workshop on water, gender, and community action at the University of the Basque Country
On September 25, the University of the Basque Country hosted a one-day participatory workshop inspired by action-research methodologies. The event brought togethe participants—students and professors from the Social Education degree program—who engaged in a collective learning experience aimed at fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and community-oriented action.
Structured around the four phases of prior knowledge, conceptualization, application of concepts, and transformation, the workshop combined expository talks, interactive sessions, and collaborative work. Presentations addressed socio-educational interventions related to water and gender, reflections on art and gender in the context of violence against women, and participatory processes for strengthening Early Warning Systems (EWS) for flood risk, including case studies from Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
Participants highlighted the value of combining theory and practice, emphasizing the participatory atmosphere and the relevance of the themes discussed. The final evaluation underscored the positive impact of the workshop for personal and professional growth, as well as its contribution to the construction of socially committed knowledge, gender balance, and youth participation.
